Holly, I hope we can make our voices heard. If it not too late already... we must try.
Thank you for reading--and responding. Hope all is well in NC--my old bridge-playing buddy Rich Beckman is getting inducted into the Journalism Hall of Fame in April, and I'm trying to figure how out to get up there to see him. Hate to fly but maybe this once... Best, Ben
You are brilliant! If you are nearby to KCMO -- I'd love to come and have coffee or tea with you.... I send your link to all my family. You are so, so wise. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing the blog. The response has been humbling. If I ever do make it to KC, you are second on the list--behind Sheri's Cavalier spaniels, as a dyed-in-the-wool dog lover--and would thoroughly enjoy sharing a coffee with you! South Florida is becoming a bit claustrophobic after 30 years in Northern Virginia. But I don't think of myself as wise, just a keen observer--born to be a journalist. Best regards, Ben
Excellent summary, Ben. I was going to say that now is not the time to sit on the sidelines, but, really, no time is the time to sit out of the stupidity that threatens our society. Let's all fight the good fight.
Ben, this points out the dangers in a historical context of the march of stupidity. I felt like I was witnessing the death of my own country as I watched this. It was the opposite of how we felt watching the Berlin Wall come down, or the people stand up against communism in the 1990 domino rejection of that horrible system. Now, I see America falling--falling to a pack of venal and deliberately ignorant bullies. Putin is celebrating. Europe and the other free nations are withdrawing. Our Pan-American alliances are already in shreds. And we see the Nero-like flames of hatred consuming the sacred pillars of our nation. Thank you for this. I've shared it on Facebook and LinkedIN.

This is a clear and demanding read -- thank you, Ben, for your faithfulness and for this post.
Bishop Diane, I am so pleased you saw it! And many thanks for the kind words--best, Ben

Thanks Holly! After last night, I am even more energized. But a bit humbled by the response to this entry!
